Help your Year 1 child see how numbers beyond 10 are built through outdoor, hands-on play.
Fill the Frames is an outdoor ten-frame activity that encourages children to represent numbers using natural objects. As they fill one ten-frame and then add the extra ones to a second, they'll begin to see numbers such as 14 as ten and four more, while practising careful one-to-one counting.
Simple to set up and easy to adapt, you'll receive a parent-friendly guide with clear instructions, practical learning tips and ideas to extend the play as your child's confidence grows. The activity is designed to be flexible. Draw large ten-frames outdoors using chalk or sticks, then collect leaves, stones, pinecones or other safe natural objects to build different numbers together.
