Have a Question? You’re in the Right Place.
Find answers to common questions about Everyday Maths Play, our resources and helping your child enjoy and understand maths through play.
Q. What ages is Everyday Maths Play for?
Everyday Maths Play is designed for children from Pre-school through to Year 2, with activities and resources organised by age and stage to help you find a good starting point for your child.
Of course, children don’t all learn at the same pace! Your child might find some areas of maths easier than others or enjoy activities from a different stage. The age and stage labels are there as a guide, so you can choose what feels right for your child rather than worrying about sticking rigidly to a particular level.
Q. Do I need to be good at maths to use the resources?
Not at all! Everyday Maths Play is designed for parents, not maths experts. The activities include guidance to help you understand the maths your child is exploring, along with ideas for questions you can ask and ways you can support their thinking.
Q. How does Everyday Maths Play fit with what my child is learning at school?
Everyday Maths Play is designed to build on and complement what your child is learning at school, not recreate it at home. Through games, activities, conversations and hands-on play, children get extra opportunities to explore mathematical ideas at their own pace, make connections and develop their understanding.
As a parent, you also have something really valuable to offer — one-to-one time with your child. You can follow their thinking, notice what they find easy or tricky and give them the time and encouragement to explore ideas in their own way.
Q. Do I need lots of special equipment?
No. Most activities use things you probably already have at home — such as dice, playing cards, building blocks, toys or everyday household objects. Some activities may need a few extra materials or printables, but you’ll always be able to see what you need before you start. The focus is on making maths through play practical and achievable for real family life, not giving you a long shopping list.
Q. How long should we spend on an activity?
There’s no set amount of time. Some activities might keep your child interested for quite a while, while others might only last ten minutes — both are absolutely fine.
Follow your child’s lead. If they’re enjoying themselves and exploring the maths, keep going. If they’ve had enough, stop and come back another time. Maths through play shouldn’t feel like something you have to get through or finish.
Q. Are the resources digital, and do I need to print them?
All Everyday Maths Play resources are digital downloads, so you can access them straight away — no waiting for anything to arrive in the post!
You won’t always need to print everything. Some resources include printables that work best printed, while many activities can be set up using the instructions on screen and things you already have at home. Each resource will make it clear what you’ll need.
Q. What happens after I purchase a resource?
Once your purchase is complete, you’ll be able to access your digital resources straight away. You’ll also receive an email with a link to your download, so you can come back to it later.
Simply download the files to your device and they’re yours to use whenever you’re ready for some maths play!
Q. Can I use the resources with more than one child?
Absolutely! Once you’ve purchased a resource, you’re welcome to use it with all of your own children — and come back to it as many times as you like.
Resources are for use by the person who purchased them, though, so please don’t share or redistribute the digital files. If you know someone who’d enjoy them too, I’d really appreciate you pointing them towards Everyday Maths Play instead!
Q. What is your refund policy for digital resources?
Because our resources are digital downloads and can be accessed immediately after purchase, we’re generally unable to offer refunds once a resource has been downloaded.
However, if you have a problem with your purchase or something isn’t right, please get in touch and I’ll always do my best to help.
Q. I’m having trouble with my download, what should I do?
Don’t worry! First, check the email address you used when placing your order — you should receive an email containing a link to your download. It’s also worth checking your junk or spam folder, just in case it’s hiding in there.
If you still can’t access your resource, please get in touch with your order details and I’ll be happy to help.
